The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) has handed out its last IPv4 addresses, leaving the remaining blocks to regional registries that in some cases may exhaust them within a few months.

The end of IPv4 (Internet Protocol version 4) addresses was announced in a ceremony in Miami on Thursday morning. Each of the five regional Internet registries (RIRs) was allocated one of the final five large blocks of about 16 million addresses.

The end of the central supply of IPv4 addresses signaled the urgency of enterprises and service providers to migrate to IPv6, the latest version of the protocol, which has been available for more than a decade and allows for an almost unlimited number of addresses. When there are no more IPv4 addresses available from the RIRs, new hosts on the Internet will not be able to communicate with systems that use only IPv4 without special mechanisms that could degrade the Internet experience. Some experts advise adopting a "dual-stack" approach to remain connected with both IPv4 and IPv6 hosts.

"A pool of more than 4 billion Internet addresses has just been emptied this morning," said Rod Beckstrom, president and CEO of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), which oversees IANA. "The future of the Internet, and the innovation it fosters, lies with IPv6."

IANA and the RIRs had laid the groundwork for Thursday's action in advance by agreeing on a policy that when the supply of large blocks went down to five, one would be assigned to each of the regional bodies. The policy was designed to ensure that regions where addresses were being used up less quickly wouldn't be left out in the end.

The Asia-Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC) was assigned two large blocks of addresses earlier this week, causing the rule to kick in.

Though there is wide agreement that enterprises and ISPs need to migrate to IPv6, there are potential hazards both in delaying that move and in carrying it out. A key concern is that most available security tools don't work with IPv6. And though some experts point to network-based translation between the protocols as a short-term solution, others say that approach could break some applications and services.

The supply of fresh IPv4 addresses for North America will probably last only three to nine months, according to John Curran, president and CEO of the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN), the region's RIR.

The action taken Thursday will have ripple effects on organizations that need IPv4 addresses in many countries.

As the final allocation took place, new rules immediately went into effect at the American Registry for Internet Numbers, the RIR for North America. In the past, ARIN has allowed its customers to forecast their need for addresses over the next 12 months and apply for a year's allocation. Now they will have to apply every 90 days, showing a forecast for that period.

Levant Christians Face Increasing Dilemma to Emigrate | AHN

Dismissing calls to leave the region amid increased sectarian attacks, Christians in Syria are heeding their clerics and are holding fast to their communities.

"Life here in Damascus is more than perfect," Father Gabriel Dawood, a priest at the Syriac Orthodox Church in Damascus told The Media Line. "The good atmosphere here isn't fake like in other places. Here people are united as one."

Religious leaders in Syria at a government-sponsored conference called on Christians to remain in the Middle East despite recurring attacks against them, blaming Israel and the West for their suffering.

The appeal was made last week at the opening of the Islamic-Christian Fraternity Conference in Damascus. An annual event, the conference was organized by the Ministry of Islamic Endowments and local Syrian churches.

A terrorist attack against the Our Lady of Deliverance Syriac church in Baghdad in late October which killed 58 Christians weighed heavy on the minds of participants in the Syrian capital. The church raid was the last in a chain of anti-Christian attacks which have dispersed the once thriving Christian community of Iraq.

"I urge Christians of the East, from Palestine and Iraq, to cling to the land of our nation," Patriarch Ignatius Zakka 'Iwas, head of the Syriac Orthodox Church, was quoted as saying by the Kuwaiti daily Al-Rai.

"What is happening in Palestine and Iraq is the best proof of attempts by the enemies of good to divide our united house in order to control it and plunder its riches, with the support of Western countries," ‘Iwas added.

But a different message, less defiant and steadfast, came from one of the Church's representatives in Europe.

Archbishop Athanasios Dawood, head of the Syriac Orthodox Church in Great Britain, called on Christians to leave Iraq en mass. In a televised interview with BBC last month, Archbishop Dawood warned that "if (Christians) stay, they will be finished one by one."

But in Damascus, Father Gabriel Dawood said that Christians felt safer in Syria than elsewhere in the Middle East due both to the people's mentality and to policy directed from above.

"People here in Syria believe in peace," Father Gabriel said. "In addition, the President has instilled the principle of 'religion is for God, but the nation is for everyone'."

Since the start of the war in Iraq, many Iraqi refugees have found haven in neighboring Syria, including an unusually high proportion of Christians. According to Farah Dakhlallah, UNHCR Public Information Officer in Syria, 11% of Iraq's 152,000 refugees living in Syria were Christian. Some 12,000 Christian Iraqi refugees live in and around Damascus.

Many Christians view the secular approach of Syria's Ba'ath regime, led by President Bashar Al-Assad, as a guarantee for their religious freedom. The socialist and pan-Arab ideology of Ba'ath was outlined in the early 1940s by its founder Michel Aflaq, himself a Syrian Greek Orthodox Christian.

According to the State Department's International Religious Freedom Report for 2010, Christians constitute between 8 and 10 percent of Syria's population of 21 million. Christians reside around the urban centers of Damascus, Aleppo, Homs, Hama and Latakia. The largest Christian group is the Greek Orthodox Church.

The Syrian constitution guarantees freedom of religion, and government documents such as passports or identity cards do not give religious affiliation. Legally, Christians can fill all positions in politics except the post of president.

Severios Hazail Soumi, a native of Syria and Syriac Patriarch of Belgium and France, said that Syria's relative safety explained the sense of security of Syrian Christians.

"The first victims of war [in the Middle East] are always the Christians," Soumi told The Media Line. "Syria is a safe country, and Christians have their place in it. Up until now, no Christian was discriminated against in Syria."

Soumi acknowledged an influx of Christian emigration from Syria, but said it was due to economic rather than political reasons.

"If a Christian leaves Syria, it's only for economic reasons, or to unite with his family abroad," he said.

Hundreds of clerics from over 30 countries attended the Damascus conference that was called to discuss Christian-Muslim relations. Yet, virulent Israel and America bashing readily surfaced.

"The West is behind the killing of Christians in the church 'Our Lady of Deliverance', not Muslims," Grand Mufti of Syria Ahmad Hassoun told the assembly. "The West is clashing with civilizations while the East is building civilizations."

Sheikh Na'im Qassem, deputy secretary general of Hizbullah, Lebanon's armed Shiite faction, implied that Israel was behind the killing of Iraqi Christians.

"Those who killed the Christians in Iraq are no different than those who are killing children in Palestine," he said, calling on Christians and Muslims to unite and cooperate in "combating the conspiracies that target the region."

Google-Verizon Deal: The End of The Internet as We Know It

For years, Internet advocates have warned of the doomsday scenario that will play out on Monday: Google and Verizon will announce a deal that the New York Times reports "could allow Verizon to speed some online content to Internet users more quickly if the content's creators are willing to pay for the privilege."

The deal marks the beginning of the end of the Internet as you know it. Since its beginnings, the Net was a level playing field that allowed all content to move at the same speed, whether it's ABC News or your uncle's video blog. That's all about to change, and the result couldn't be more bleak for the future of the Internet, for television, radio and independent voices.

How did this happen? We have a Federal Communications Commission that has been denied authority by the courts to police the activities of Internet service providers like Verizon and Comcast. All because of a bad decision by the Bush-era FCC. We have a pro-industry FCC Chairman who is terrified of making a decision, conducting back room dealmaking, and willing to sit on his hands rather than reassert his agency's authority. We have a president who promised to "take a back seat to no one on Net Neutrality" yet remains silent. We have a congress that is nearly completely captured by industry. Yes, more than half of the US congress will do pretty much whatever the phone and cable companies ask them to. Add the clout of Google, and you have near-complete control of Capitol Hill.

A non-neutral Internet means that companies like AT&T, Comcast, Verizon and Google can turn the Net into cable TV and pick winners and losers online. A problem just for Internet geeks? You wish. All video, radio, phone and other services will soon be delivered through an Internet connection. Ending Net Neutrality would end the revolutionary potential that any website can act as a television or radio network. It would spell the end of our opportunity to wrest access and distribution of media content away from the handful of massive media corporations that currently control the television and radio dial.

So the Google-Verizon deal can be summed up as this: "FCC, you have no authority over us and you're not going to do anything about it. Congress, we own you, and we'll get whatever legislation we want. And American people, you can't stop us.

This Google-Verizon deal, this industry-captured FCC, and the way this is playing out is akin to the largest banks and the largest hedge funds writing the regulatory policy on derivative trading without any oversight or input from the public, and having it rubber stamped by the SEC. It's like BP and Halliburton ironing out the rules for offshore oil drilling with no public input, and having MMS sign off.

Fortunately, while they are outnumbered, there are several powerful Net Neutrality champions on Capitol Hill, like Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Henry Waxman, Jay Rockefeller, Ed Markey, Jay Inslee and many others. But they will not be able to turn this tide unless they have massive, visible support from every American who uses the Internet --- whether it's for news, email, shopping, Facebook, Twitter --- whatever. So stop what you're doing and tell them you're not letting the Internet go the way of Big Oil and Big Banks. The future of the Internet, and your access to information depends on it.

Author's note: Notice how a company can change their tune in the name of profitmaking. From Google in 2006: "Today the Internet is an information highway where anybody - no matter how large or small, how traditional or unconventional - has equal access. But the phone and cable monopolies, who control almost all Internet access, want the power to choose who gets access to high-speed lanes and whose content gets seen first and fastest. They want to build a two-tiered system and block the on-ramps for those who can't pay."

I met with my father today, in from California, we had breakfast at the local grill. It was fun, we always have a great time together, talking about family, the moments of our pasts, thoughts about the future, it always a very inspiring time for me. I shared with him my interactive banner systems, concept. His first suggestion, i think, sums up his enthusiasm. "He suggested I draft up, a non disclosure, non circumvention agreement!" Meaning, he thinks the concept is so strong, that before I share it with anyone else, i need to protect it. I can't remember him ever being so supportive of an idea of mine before.

Yesturday was the first entry for my 'daily'. Err. Anyway, I wont bother explaining it any further. I want to include the Inc. mag. I picked up with it's article on Kevin Surace, and Serious Materials. Innoviative inspiring, and world changing! I'd love to build a house out of serious materials, fer sure! I also grabbed Money Sense, a Canadian rag. hope to put it to use in the New Year. Last night I watched Amelie, with an narration by Jean Pierre Jeunet. Amelie was nominated for 5 Academy Awards. So, it was pretty good. Now if I can pick up a DVD controller I can watch the movie without the added narration by Jean Pierre ! Oh yeah, I also recommend Invincible. A film by Werner Hertzog. A true story about Occultism in the Third Reich.

Avoid church as a compensation for a loss of family. I come from a broken home, my relatives are at odds with each other, and I lack their regular presence and 'grooming'. now that I think about it especially my fathers! I disagree with a lot that my father has said and done, and not done, but he was a very physical man, and expressed his love very warmly, with hugs, and affection, and I miss that. Nothing can compensate for that, and that loss will take time to be refilled.

This is my first photo blog. I took some shots today, as I walked around. I'm not perfectly clear on how often or when specifically I'll use this style of blogging, but I like it so far, and have an idea of how it should work to reflect me.
I leave for Orange County California tomorrow morn. I'm excited. 10 days, Sun sand, St.Anthony's monastery. Sounds good to me.

One day at a time, one rung at a time. That's how I feel. Take it step by step. Today, I stretched my wings, went to the Danforth had loukumades and coffee. Got my hair cut from Kyrios Kostas, (you know he mentioned that I should consider becoming a priest! I liked that thought.) After words, I felt moved to head out to the West end to Centenial Park to take care of my rec. center membership (It's important because it's vital to my day program!), and as fourtune would have it, spoke with Susan, who was leaving for vacation today & who happily renewed my health club membership (if I had'nt gone, I would have had to wait until later in Sept. and then with my particular policy, probably another 4-6 weeks! SO, it probably good that I went {*sarcasm}. After that I came home, and took apart the 'Tower of Power' enough to bring it in from the rain and the rust. Set it up in the home gym, and mees tinks it's in a gud place! Went to CAMH after that... I asked out a lovely Occupational Therapist! Who flatly rejected me : ) But.. I think she was flattered? If not a little nervous? She explained that I was still too close to a client for ethics sake. She was pretty, even when she's rejecting me! After that I took a walk down Spadina St. and I gotta say, there are some HOT young ladies in the Tdot WOOT! Oh yeah, but that's nothing cause, like I got on the Subway after all this and sat in a corner seat, wedged in by these two, beautiful if not complimentary to each other, and as my new habit of reading the Good Book, would have it, I opened it up to Songs of Songs. Now, I thought about passing this book by, saving it for... well, then I thought about how appropriate this wisdom was to this age, so fueled by lust and starved of love! And I wanted to share it. So, I began to read, quietly, and, I don't know whether it was coinsidence or the fact that we are so spiritualy bombarded all day, everyday, but after a short while, this extremely lovely young lady beside me, began to become, aggitated? Genuinely, beside herself. I thought she was going to jump out of her seat! As I read over these... INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL passages from scripture. I never felt anything like it. Really, it blows Annis Nin away! Anyway, that reminds me, to develop good habits, cause, they're just better experiences. So then I came home, worked out, took a nice bath, worked out my daily schedual, for good house keeping, and well here I am now. I wont go to Metamorphosis tomorrow, but might go to the gym?
Lots to do, and I'll try to publish more.
Until then, we'll just have to wait for the untold to unfold.

Alight, so I'll be up north this spring and summer, I'm psyched! I give up where I live now, and move on, it's been five years, and I'm ready for a change. I'll put together a flyer and post them around the neighborhoods, that I would like to live, outlining what I'm looking for and see what kind of results I get. I'd like to find a room, to rent, that was inexpensive and clean, and a little more neighborly than where I live now.
As for my education, my thoughts are this, to 'If it be GOD's will', get a certificate in, Diesel Engine Mechs. study computers and computer networking, then do, and apprenticeship in cable installation, and work towards being a renaissance builder. I really like Granton, and think that correspondence courses are the way of the future. So that I can work and learn that way? So keep that in mind. As for now, I'm totally in love with Christ, this time of the year is the best, and may GOD bless all his faithful children with the bright sadness, that accompanies Great Lent. I feel it, my brothers and sisters feel it, and I hope that you feel it too.

Today, I was woken up by Camilia. I did'nt get to sleep till around 4am, so I was less that enthusiastic! After slowly getting myself together I made my way to the gym, it was a solid effort. 15 chin ups (a P.B.), then on to the back. Good focus on the deadlifts, & cable rows. Met Chris and Adam, jumped into their routine for a spell, and did some lat. pull downs, after wards on to one arm BD rows. All in all I was pleased with the results. Oh yeah, and the guys too. I picked up a three month supply of vitamins, that my mom sent from Que. so big thanks for that. I, ate, played the guitar, worked on my typing skills (set up time chart, created folders), developed a monthly budget chart in Google docs. a little M&F, and then dinner. Wow, what you can do with TVP, I had a full plate maybe 100 grams of TVP or more, that's roughly, 50gm of protein! cost = .25 cents. I can live with that. After a brief prayer, I want to say first of all, that the times that feel struck, the times I have thoughts that are insensitive, about peoples. Their misfortunes or sufferings. If inwardly I judge, or am critical. Tonight I found myself laughing at a little joke i was making about someone. I know, I know, we can laugh at ourselves, but it's because theres so much sensitivity i feel towards that person, and i can realize so many positive aspects, quickly, when i put my mind to it.
So, the things I'm interested in,
Machines, Computers, building / construction.
What about like, a CNS, Infomatics, with lean towards ecom. into a network cabling apprentice?
Or something like that?
Just, thinking.
And find out about, HDM. up in the reforestation sector?

Today I put together a list of the things that make me happy. A sort of reminder of all the things that I'm grateful for. It was really helpful, I mean that right away, I saw things that make me feel good, good as in hopeful. The list included things that I'm interested in. The creativity was flowing, as the list began to grow.
It looks right, something in the world to work with to follow, to refine.
now if I can just figure out what league of cricket it is I'm supposed to be following!?

Nice interview, from the WWFAustralia, I think the interviewer really wanted David to give him a hug? If you know me, I'm really cautious of 'personality cults', in any sphere. And the environmental movement is no exception! Being Canadian I grwe up watching Mr.Suzuki and in fact my brother went to school with his children. That said, he defends, what would be considered to any intelligent life force as common sense, consumption! don't consume so much. I believe it's sin that drives us to consumption, we get hurt angry, scared, we reach for comfort, which is natural, but, it turns so quickly to seeking to control vice! Which is incontestably, an unsatisfiable hunger. I think of the Desert Fathers, Pachomius of Thebaid, St.Anthony the Great, that there journeys (if I may so boldly venture) into the Deserts, really speak to this issue in two very converse ways, firstly: that, a life that is led by sin, leads incontestably to, a scorched barren earth. secondly: that, the opposite holds true, and even in a DESERT, a life lead by Grace is, more fertile and abundant than all of what David Suzuki and every other scientist, ever has observed, (or imagined for that matter!!) anywhere, in History. I do believe, its as simple as that, and that their voices echo clearer now, than any other time in History. Amen.
Now, on a lighter note, apparently their is 9 piles of fresh puppy poop, somewhere ready to be picked up!

After a slow waking up, I said my devotions, finished off my Youtube channel profile (still not perfect but, oh well, a good start). I then, hung my Gustav Klimt prints (perfectly!!) while, listening to, Kid Koala, Mix Master Mike, and Qbert! (perfectly) and most of all had, fun. 777 style! ie.PERFECTLY! afterwards i went to the gym (also perfectly), worked my abs's and cardio (seriously.) then a little shopping, cold cuts pickles, milk, stuffff like that. Came home had dinner, and now I'm wrapping it up with you here now. You guessed it, (Perfectly!) ha ha, bye for now.

I missed the liturgy this morning, slept in. I was tired from my cardio. The gym hottie,sat down on the bike next to me, and well, I don't have to explain. Anyway, Peace be to all.
I called my Grandfather this morning, and told him I was going to go back to school. He was thrilled, and even said that he would tell my Grandmother about my decision. It reminds me of why and education is so important, I do love to learn. When I think about Goran, Christy, and others that have gone back to school or continued there educations, it inspires me to believe in myself, and that I can. Take it one day at a time and one step at a time. Thanks, Grandpa.

Montreal 2008

My trip here in Montreal is winding down. Since I have been here i have, attended the vesper (although late) service for St.Andrew the Apostle. Dined at the banquet for the 30th anniversary of the Sign of the Theotokos. Celebrated Greg's 70th birthday. Done a pile of shopping. Created a, photo and video blog of my urban walking tour. I had coffee with a rock star! Hung out with Anthony V. at Dejuener Inc. Saw Changling (Clint Eastwood, needs some serious help, is all I can say). Watched Osterov, (which, incidentally, totally made up for Changling). Taken communion at the Hand of His Eminence Archbishop Seraphim, (and yes we need to invest more in our communities, and then to develop connections to with other communities as well). An awesome family brunch. I had a delicious dinner, and wonderful conversation with my Nouna, Elizabeth (I got gassed) We went out and bought pine branches for Christams decorations, it was a lot of fun. Then after an afternoon spent helping Greg lay flooring, I finished everything off with the most beautiful walk in the, snow through, Bois de Liesse park! I Loved it! Im stoked! I love being with myself, now let's get creative!

Today I spent the morning at the Sing of the Theotokos, helping set up the alter and tables for the 30 year anniversary dinner.It felt like what a happy contemporary church should reflect, a community and family. Glory to GOD.
Mom, was sick last night, up through the night with 'gastro'? of course I slept through the whole thing. Now (as I write this), I looked up Trebas, institues web site for film and TV, production and post production, following Fr.John's guidance, it looks really solid and I've put in a RFI. I like the idea of studing film, and post production effects, perhaps working towards digital, internet, commercials? It's so accessable, and there are so many new commercial, and non profit ventures to bring to market. I think it would be really fun to do.

Well, things have leveled out with Fr.Roberto. I'm glad, the people at the mission mean a lot to me. I still have some trouble talking with some and thinking "does Fr. see this?", it's akin to thinking "yeah, I'm a good person!" But healing will come with time, have patience. Last night was fun, few people showed up, I prayed for my friend Naomi 'in Saskatchewan', during the vesper prayer service, it was nice to feel like she's a part of the community there. She is. After wards father was late for his 'bridges' bible study class, and we digressed into the 'Cat in the Hat', it was priceless.

A nice, early wake up for a change, I find that when I sleep in I feel like I'm loosing out on life. I made it to Church on time, and was invited to read during the Orthos, and even during the Lit. standing with the Cantors. I enjoy Fr.George's surmons very much, and look forward to the next. I've given more thought to what Fr.Roberto said, and although I still want to calm these impulses dow, I found him to be ill informed, hypocritical, and even insulting. I have these thoughts I wrestle with, and pray the Lord has mercy on us.
On a lighter note, my dad got a flat tire in Saracuse this morning and said that he'd be a couple of hours late getting in to Toronto.
I think I'm gonna need as many Liturgies as I can get?

Today Fr.Roberto politely asked me to ease up on my search for female companion ship within the parish and mission. I appreciate his loving care for his flock, but I found his criticism to be, ill informed, prejudice, and hypocritical. It started out as a "an opportunity to sit down and chat", and ended with an ultimatum. I didn't feel that he cared at all to understand ME, and may even figure he already, knows ME. I admit that for several reasons it hurt. 1) I found that it was an over reaction, considering the 3 women involved 2) a double standard, one of those young ladies has gone on to another relationship within the community (agreed, a man much better than me). 3) He exemplified to me that he has'nt forgiven me, and there were irresponsable attempts to provoke guilt and shame. I say this in anger of course, and consider Fr.Roberto to be amongst the most caring and considerate men I've met, and the misison as a perfect example of a few committed people making the kinds of change nessecary for helping bring fullfillment to other peoples lives who would otherwise be neglected. He invited me to spend more time at the mission and be a comfort and companion to the lonely there, and when my anger subsides I will take him up on that. As far as the young ladies, we have to learn to walk, if we fall down a few times, we have to get back up. So, I've decided to put on a nice shirt and learn a couple of dances, the Rumba or something like that! In conclusion,
